With our savings retirement account, you set aside money for an additional, personal retirement fund – and possibly qualify for several serious tax benefits. To receive a full Dutch state pension (‘AOW’), you need to have lived and worked in the Netherlands for 50 years before reaching the legal pension age. But even if you’re eligible for AOW, that may not be enough.

Saving for your pension

May sound exciting, but is actually quite boring.

Every year, you could get a sizeable chunk (around 37% to 49%) of your deposit back from the Dutch tax authorities.
This benefit is subject to several rules. For instance, you cannot easily withdraw your money until you reach the legal pension age. Check out all the conditions here.
You don’t have to pay capital gains tax on the money in the retirement account.
With a term deposit in your pension account, you get a fixed, higher interest rate.
When you retire, it’s your responsibility to arrange for the money in your account to be paid out to you periodically as gross income.
